Kunz Bridge Removal

Completed September 2003

This project removed a collapsed logging road bridge and its concrete wing walls and abutments from a stream near its mouth on the North Fork of the Stillaguamish. The estimated aggregate habitat of the stream and its tributary system is 15 miles of spawning habitat for coho and trout; 5 miles of spawning habitat for chum; and approximately 20 acres of winter and summer rearing habitat. The collapsed bridge posed an estimated 15% blockage for coho adults, 65% blockage for coho juveniles, and approximately 90% blockage for chum adults. The collapsed bridge also restricted bedload and large wood debris (LWD) transport through the lower end of the system.
